At RVRC, it’s easy to notice the vibrant student life with diverse events, late-night conversations, projects, and friendships that make the residential college special. What’s less visible, but just as important, is the steady work behind the scenes that makes all of this possible. We are grateful to the RVRC Housing Services, Housekeeping, and Maintenance teams.

The often-unseen work by these teams has a direct impact on students’ day-to-day quality of living. Clean bathrooms and common areas, well-kept corridors, and reliable utilities aren’t “small” things. They shape how safe, comfortable, and at ease students feel in our living space. When shared spaces are consistently cared for, the whole environment feels more respectful, dignified, and conducive for community living.

These teams also have a powerful indirect impact on students’ learning and growth. A stable, well-maintained residential environment supports better rest, better focus, and greater mental bandwidth for everything that matters. When the basics are taken care of, students can spend their energy on classes, assignments, leadership roles, and building meaningful relationships. Their work quietly sustains the conditions that make learning and thriving possible.

Beyond day-to-day operations, these teams have also played a meaningful role in RVRC’s identity as a living laboratory for sustainability. Over the years, Housing Services and Dining Hall staff have been active partners in student-led initiatives such as waste audits that informed recycling interventions, and data collection for energy and water consumption studies. They have helped pilot dining initiatives aimed at reducing food waste, assisted with the rollout of reusable container programmes in the dining hall, and worked alongside students testing smart energy-use monitoring systems in the common spaces. These collaborations are a reminder that sustainability education at RVRC is not just classroom learning but happens in real time, on the ground, with the support of people who are willing to engage, adapt, and make space for students to learn by doing.

RVRC thanks each member of these teams for the early mornings, the late calls, the patience, and the quiet pride they bring to their roles every day. Thank you for keeping RVRC safe, functional, and welcoming, and most importantly for helping turn “a place to stay” into a place students can truly call home.
