What does it mean to build a truly inclusive society, and what role do young people play in shaping it?
On 18 March 2026, Ridge View Residential College (RVRC) at the National University of Singapore hosted a dialogue bringing together 120 students enrolled across three interconnected courses: RVSS1004 Regardless of Race, RVC1000 How in the world do we get along, and RVN2003 Understanding Disability and Fostering Inclusivity. These three RVRC courses are united by a shared focus on community, inclusivity, and workplace readiness, and are also mapped to the relevant UN Sustainable Development Goals.
We were honoured to welcome Dr Janil Puthucheary, Senior Minister of State for the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Sustainability and the Environment, as our guest speaker. Held at the NUS University Hall Auditorium and moderated by Dr Kelvin Lee, the evening opened with Dr Janil's personal reflections on social cohesion. The session then opened up into a candid and wide-ranging Q&A with students, a testament to the open and thoughtful spirit they brought to the room.
The event was graciously sponsored by our community partner, OnePeople.sg (OPSG), whose support for organising the event, including the evening's refreshments, made the dialogue possible. We extend our sincere gratitude to OPSG Executive Director Mr Iqbal Sanjiman and his team for their partnership and commitment to advancing conversations on racial harmony and national unity.
Evenings like this remind us why the work of building inclusive communities begins long before we enter the workforce, and that students, when given the space and the right conversations, rise to meet that challenge.
Thank you to everyone who made this possible: our moderator, the RVRC team, NUS Office of Student Affairs, the Ministry of Education, and the People's Association.
