The World Is Our Classroom
The RVRC Programme fosters stewardship of society and the environment through interdisciplinary education, active community engagement, and critical reflection. By transforming the world into our classroom, RVRC provides students with a unique two-year living-and-learning experience. Emphasizing sustainability, experiential, and outdoor learning, many RVRC courses extend beyond traditional classroom settings to offer hands-on learning opportunities.
RVRC students collaborate closely with dedicated Fellows throughout their residency. Learning occurs in small groups to enhance student engagement with both Fellows and peers. This collaborative approach ensures that students remain deeply engaged and supported throughout their educational journey.
Co-academic activities complement formal academic courses, making learning enjoyable while serving as a catalyst for change. We offer a variety of outdoor learning activities and industry engagement opportunities to broaden horizons and diversify skills, equipping students to navigate an ever-changing, complex world.
The RVRC Programme
RVRC offers a two-year programme aligned with the enhanced NUS General Education Curriculum. RVRC courses are mapped to four of the six General Education pillars, namely: Community and Engagement, Critique and Expression, Cultures and Connections, and Singapore Studies. All courses are taught for one semester and carry 4 Units each.
RVRC students have the option to select one course from each of the four pillars. Over two years, students are expected to complete one course from each of the four pillars to fulfil the requirements of the RVRC Programme and achieve certification. The curriculum for the RVRC Programme is worth 16 Units, and students who complete the two-year programme receive this recognition on their official NUS transcript.
Students must complete the remaining two General Education pillars of Data Literacy and Digital Literacy outside the RVRC Programme, as offered by the university or their faculty. More information on how the RVRC curriculum fulfils further graduation requirements may be specified by the faculty.

*For RVRC students from the College of Humanities and Sciences (CHS)
RVRC students from CHS who read the 4 RVRC courses will be exempted from reading the following CHS Common Curriculum courses:
- Communities and Engagement
- Writing
- Interdisciplinary Course I*
- Interdisciplinary Course II*
*CHS XDP (PPE, DSE or BES) students are exempted from reading the two Interdisciplinary Courses I & II in the CHS common curriculum and these courses will count towards the UE requirements of their XDPs instead.
*For students from Law, Medicine, Dentistry, Nursing, Pharmacy and other programmes with curricular constraints:
An academic pathway has been tailored for the students to read courses with RVRC as part of the college experience. Students from Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy and Law would only be required to read 1 RVRC course in each academic year, with the following arrangement:
Law
The two RVRC courses will be read as enrichment, i.e. these courses will not count towards the requisite units in the Law Degree Programme. Reading the 2nd RVRC course will be subject to the Law Vice-Dean (Academic Affairs)’s approval based on the student’s performance in Year 1.
Dentistry & Medicine
The two RVRC courses will be read as enrichment, i.e. these courses will not appear in the transcript of the Dentistry/Medicine students. A separate academic plan will be created for these students, who will not need to participate in course registration for RVRC Courses.
Nursing & Pharmacy
The two RVRC courses (worth 8 units) will be read as Unrestricted Electives (UE) by Nursing & Pharmacy students.
RVRC Two-Year Programme Certificate

Over the course of two years, RVRC students are expected to complete one course from each of the four pillars to fulfill the requirements of the RVRC Programme. To achieve certification, students must meet both programme and residency requirements. Starting from AY21/22, students who complete the two-year RVRC Programme will have this recognition reflected on their official NUS transcript.
RVRC Programme Honour Roll
