During the vacation, 19 RVRC Year 2 students together with 2 RVRC staff embarked on a service-learning project in Bintan as part of their Year 2 Forum on ‘Reflection’. Over the course of 4 days, the team built two safewater gardens - practical and economical biological wastewater recycling systems which help to prevent diseases, lift the social status and improve the wellbeing of the villagers. The students also interacted and brought joy to the local orphans through games and cultural exchange. Throughout the forum, students were not only fully engaged in the meaningful service but they were also constantly challenged to reflect on the meaning of service-learning and what they learnt about self and community.
