On 18 Sept afternoon, 29 RVRC students participated in a DIV visit to Siloso Beach Resort in Sentosa. Since 2003, the resort has employed many green practices in its building design and customer experience.
In the short 90 minutes, Mr Karl Fischer, the resort's CSR manager, brought the students on a detailed and insightful tour and touched on the various sustainability measures and design features in place. What impressed everyone was the resort's attention to various sustainability details. For example, each villa was built on stilts around at least two or more trees, allowing the guests to enjoy the experience of having nature right inside their living area.
The students were also very impressed with how the resort use the heat emitted from the air-conditioning system to warm the shower water and provide a heated spa pool for guests to enjoy. The resort’s closed loop practices are also evident in the food waste composting system through the resort's own wormery and fish breeding system.
