RV CIP club aims to instil the spirit of volunteerism and raise awareness of various community needs to RVRC residents. To kickstart the series of volunteering events, the RV CIP Club went for their very first CIP event on 20 July 2022. The CIP Exco members participated in a Bread Walk Distribution under Yong-En Care Centre, which offers elderly care and family support services in Singapore, including healthy ageing and empowerment activities.
During the event, the members delivered bread and condiments to seniors and other beneficiaries living in the Chinatown district. The Bread Walk Distribution was a new event, in which the CIP Exco members have not participated in before. It was eye-opening to see many of the beneficiaries living in HDB rental flats in Singapore, which are built close together to maximize space within the block. Through this volunteering experience, the exco members reflected on the levels of income disparity in Singapore and the ways that RVRC students can play a part in serving a range of communities in Singapore.
During the academic year, the club hopes to provide new volunteering opportunities for its club members. With fresh unique events, such as Kayak & Clean, a children’s event at Bethel Community Services, and a fundraising event for Hagar, there are opportunities for all RVRC residents to get involved.
