Singa Collective (002)

Students and staff from the Ridge View Residential College (RVRC) were invited to participate in the Ministry of National Development's (MND) 'Singapore Kindness Movement' with a gift of 10 mini Singa Statues, to be painted and displayed under the theme of kindness.

Painted collaboratively by around 40 enthusiastic residents from RVRC, the engaging and community bonding activity brought together students from the seven different houses and Interest Groups at the college. The open-ended theme for the activity enabled students a wide interpretation of what it means to be kind.

The completed mini Singa statues showcase students' ideas on kindness; ranging from kindness for local species such as the endangered turtle to the environment to Mental Wellness (Mellon Singa) to the more light-hearted Cupcake Singa. The Singa statues have been on display at the RVRC Dining Hall for a month, serving as a visual reminder to our students to continue to forge a community spirit centred on kindness.

I could definitely see the spirit of our college community shining through during the collaborative activity. Especially as some singa statues were shared between and painted by 2 (different) interest groups. The activity got us to remember and reminisce on our childhood growing up with Singa, also prompting a discussion on who Singa is, and the lessons taught by him.

The mini Singa statues will be returned to MND to be showcased at their annual national event in November 2022.
