Ridge View Residential College (RVRC) proudly extends its warmest congratulations to Dr. Noeleen Heyzer on being awarded the Meritorious Service Medal at the National Day Awards 2025. This esteemed national accolade recognises individuals who have made exceptional contributions to the nation, and Dr. Heyzer’s tireless commitment to public service and international diplomacy exemplifies the values underlying this honour. As a distinguished social scientist and former Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations, Dr. Heyzer has continually demonstrated exemplary leadership, both within Singapore and on the global stage. Her achievements serve as an inspiration to the RVRC community and beyond, highlighting the far-reaching impact that visionary leadership and dedicated service can have in shaping a better world.

In addition to this national recognition, the National University of Singapore (NUS) has conferred upon Dr. Heyzer the Honorary Degree of Doctor of Letters. This honorary degree, the University’s highest form of recognition, is awarded to individuals who have rendered distinguished service and achieved outstanding impact both in Singapore and internationally. Dr. Heyzer, who is also an esteemed alumna of NUS and the Rector of Ridge View Residential College, received this honour during a specially convened ceremony as part of the NUS Commencement 2025. The event was presided over by Mr Desmond Lee, Minister for Education and Minister-in-Charge of Social Services Integration.

This year’s Commencement bears special significance, as the University celebrates its 120th anniversary; a milestone marking over a century of excellence, innovation, and service to society. Dr. Heyzer was recognised for her visionary leadership in advancing the empowerment of women globally, her efforts to elevate Singapore’s international profile, and her substantial contributions through her service at the United Nations and beyond.
