WR1401 Workplace Readiness: Active learning using sport climbing

RVRC Module WR1401 Workplace Readiness expanded its use of the active learning pedagogy during semester 2 of AY 2017/18. Instructors facilitated a three-part sport climbing session, to enable students to map their individual experiences to classroom concepts of personal effectiveness. Sport climbing is a form of rock climbing that relies on permanent anchors fixed to the rock for protection. The learning activity also incorporates teamwork between two students - a climber and a belayer.  As the climber ascends, the belayer has to ensure the safety of the climber at all times. The intended learning objectives from the climbing sessions are to build confidence, build trust, train focus and build resilience.
