Sustainability takes on new meaning when we encounter it in the realities of the workplace.
RVRC celebrated the inaugural run of RVR2001 Sustainability Internship at its first Sustainability Internship Colloquium on 12 August. Led by Dr. Eunice Ng, the new course brings together two important aspects of the RVRC experience, sustainability and workplace readiness, through experiential learning in real-world settings.
Launched in AY2025/26 Special Terms 1 and 2, RVR2001 gave eight RVRC students from diverse disciplines, including Biological Sciences, Industrial & Systems Engineering, and Geography, the opportunity to experience how sustainability is understood and practised across different workplaces. Students completed internships with seven partner organisations: NUS Sustainability Strategy Unit (University Campus Infrastructure), Sustainable Living Lab Pte Ltd, SL2 Impact Limited (Sustainable Living Lab (SL2) Group), Mandai Wildlife Group, Greenphyto Pte Ltd, TheMoonbeamCo. Pte Ltd (the moonbeam co.), and SingHealth Community Hospitals. Their work covered a wide range of sustainability-related areas, from ESG reporting to community engagement.
Throughout their internships, students worked closely with workplace supervisors and RVRC academic fellows, gaining first-hand insights into how sustainability is approached in different organisational contexts. The colloquium brought these experiences together in a vibrant exchange, with students sharing key insights and learning points across different workplaces, disciplines, and sectors. It became a valuable learning experience in itself, turning individual internship experiences into shared learning across the RVRC community.

The inaugural RVR2001 experience reflects how sustainability, experiential learning, and workplace readiness come together as integral parts of learning at RVRC. As we build on this first run, we look forward to deepening these connections and creating even more possibilities for students to learn, contribute, and engage with sustainability where it is being put into practice.
