Honorary Joint Appointment
Gene Segarra Navera is a Senior Lecturer and Deputy Director at the Centre for English Language Communication (CELC), as well as a College Fellow at Tembusu College, National University of Singapore (NUS). He holds a PhD in English Language Studies from the National University of Singapore.
His research and teaching focus on rhetorical theory, public discourse, critical pedagogy, and instructional communication, with a strong emphasis on interdisciplinary learning and decolonial perspectives. Beyond academic literacy and communication studies, his work explores the intersection of popular culture and performance, particularly examining fan culture, performance, and rhetorical dynamics within Filipino beauty pageants. A dedicated educator, scholar, and author, he has presented his work at international conferences and contributes to publications on rhetoric, communication, and higher education pedagogy.
