RVRC hosts Minister Masagos Zulkifli for SWWD

RVRC hosted Mr. Masagos Zulkifli, Minister for the Environment and Water Resources, to witness its 10-hour water rationing exercise in conjunction with the Singapore World Water Day 2018 on 22 March 2018. It was part of the series of events for NUS Save Our Water campaign. Water supply for all six residential blocks of RVRC was shut down for 10 hours, from 7.00am to 5.00pm on 22 March. This exercise involved about 670 NUS students and staff residents. The shutdown involved 27 toilets, 123 shower cubicles, and 14 pantries.

Besides observing the water rationing exercise, Minister Masagos also toured RVRC, during which he observed several water conservation features at RVRC. The tour began with viewing the bioswale and connecting retention pond that are part of the RVRC green building design features. RVRC students Tang Yong Jen and Lee Esther shared details about the Dragonfly Watch Programme hosted in collaboration with NParks. This was followed by a visit to the student run Edible Garden community project that houses a rainwater harvesting tank installed by a motivated team of RVRC students. Students were also on hand to share details of other water saving projects implemented at RVRC. The visit ended with Minister Masagos interacting with RVRC students about the significance of water rationing.
