DIVDavid

On the 20th of August, RVRC hosted Mr. David Lim, Assistant Director (Character & Youth Development Programmes), Outward Bound Singapore. The session was facilitated by by RVRC Year 3 senior Harith Hakim B Hesheam, an outdoor adventure enthusiast.

David began the session with sharing about the challenges and life lessons that he picked up during his arduous 1,125 km trek to the South Pole in 1999. He then shared the various key steps for students to conquer their own ‘Everest’ - the importance of goal-setting, to identify a realistic and meaningful purpose to propel ourselves towards our own goals followed by the need for effective strategy development and having an optimized execution and performance.

The engaging discussion continued during the Q&A segment where the students asked David what keeps him motivated. David stressed the importance of pushing himself out of his comfort zone whenever he felt too comfortable with his job. David’s sharing resonated well with the students as they understood the importance of having a higher purpose in life and developing resilience in the face of adversity. To end off, he shared a really meaningful quote to inspire the students.

“You cannot discover new oceans unless you have the courage to lose sight of the shore”
