On 15th September, 320 RVRC staff and students set off to Tanah Merah Beach for RVRC’s Fourth International Coastal Cleanup. This annual cleanup aims to help collect data on the trash that ends up on our beaches, as well as to give students a closer look at the challenges we face in terms of marine litter, microplastics and byproducts of our lifestyles that unfortunately end up on shores. We joined students from the College of Alice and Peter Tan to tackle around 300 meters of non-recreational beach. Greeting us there were a large variety of plastic litter; from straws, bottles to even a 50 meter long rope! By the end of the morning, we managed to collect an impressive 757 kg of trash! Good job RVRC!
