xinchao

A group of RVRC students came together to form RV XinChao, which is a self-initiated overseas community involvement project in partnership with a Vietnamese non-profit organisation, Evo Vietnam Group (EVG). With support from the National Youth Council Youth Expedition Project and RVRC, the team recently completed their five-day virtual classes with a group of children aged between 9-15 on a range of STEM related topics, including English and Math lessons intertwined with cross-cultural sharing.

One of the takeaways of this experience is learning more about the Vietnamese people and culture. While a lot can be learnt from travel videos and third party experiences via articles, the team shared that a first-hand experience of interacting with Vietnamese people gave them deeper insights about the culture and practices in Vietnam. The participating RVRC students also felt that the Vietnamese students' mindset in learning really inspired them to have a more proactive and positive attitude towards their education, as most students in Singapore often take education for granted.

By targeting STEM related topics, the team hopes that they have sparked interest in the Vietnamese children that motivates them to pursue this interest that will be useful in their future lives. The RV XinChao team would also like to express their gratitude to all who have supported their project in one way or another.
