alumni dialogue

On 23rd August, RVRC hosted 3 RVRC Alumni for an evening of sharing and networking with a number of current RVRC students. Today Wee Li Shuen, is a Client Account Coordinator at Twitter, Samuel Ong is engaged as a Cybersecurity consultant at PayPal, and Benn Tay works as a Software Engineer at Grab. The evening began with a short introduction of their personal experience in RVRC, during which all three alumni urged the juniors to use the opportunities and participate in all activities while in RVRC. They went on to share their journey in job hunting and current job experiences. One alumnus shared how he had submitted close to 150 job applications, but was only invited to a few interviews. Consequently, they gave tips on how to use keywords relating to the job description advertisements to enhance their resume and cover letters.

The three key takeaways from their sharing where:

  1. Keep on going
  2. Seize every learning opportunity
  3. Get to know people (starting with RVRC) to expand your network

Desmond Ng, the Associate Director for Alumni Relations, summarised the evening by stating: “I believe both juniors and seniors have benefitted from the alumni sharing and value the key takeaways.”
