Jungyoung is a communication studies scholar with a strong interdisciplinary orientation spanning anthropology, gender and sexuality studies, and history. She received her M.A. in Communication from Seoul National University and her Ph.D. in Communication and the Critical Gender Studies Program from the University of California, San Diego. Prior to joining RVRC, she taught at the Centre for English Language Communication at NUS. She also has professional experience in market research and at a government research institute focusing on media and broadcasting.

Her research examines the significance of everyday communication and how people construct, negotiate, and circulate meanings within complex and rapidly changing media environments from a postcolonial feminist perspective. In particular, her work explores how larger power relations, including capitalism, patriarchy, and racism, inform everyday interactions and processes of meaning-making.

Outside academia, she enjoys cooking as a way to unwind, drinking coffee, and spending time reflecting, writing, and journaling.
